A Friend
"Learn of this place?"
"Why must I learn of this place?"
"And to whom do I speak?"
I said in the shrillest of voices.
Through the cloud like mass
came two inquisitive eyes.
They were bright glossy
blue orbs,
wide with interest,
and glad that I had arrived.
Again, I heard that same clear voice,
"Come with me child and learn of this place."
But this time, along with the voice, came two wrinkled lips also peaking through the fog.
Were my eyes playing tricks on me, for all I could see were those two lips up ahead
and moved in some irregular motion,
like some wiggly on an electronic graph, pulsing, pulsing.
Now I had two points of reference to base this appearance on,
two eyes and a mouth.    Like the Cheshire cat it bounced up and down.
I said, "Oh my why?  Why must I learn of this place?
Of what interest and value does this place have for me?
And even more is the question of, who are you?
But two lips and eyes, that speaks in such riddles,
for I heard your fine verse, just a short time ago."
and then without speaking a single word this creature appeared complete.
Like it was here to perform some fantastic magic show, just for me.
And here's what I saw, two
blue hands, a pinkish face and two eyebrows blue, no black!
At first, I was stunned from the look of this
blue man before me.
Quickly I shut my eyes, then opened them, then I wondered to myself.
"Could this creature before me be some help in my plight, to no where's ville?
Could this creature, so silly in looks, be the helping hand, to figure out what and where this place was?"
I gathered my wits and said with a sputter,
"Go ahead.  Explain what your meant to explain.
Go now and speak."  Cried my voice in the darkness.
"Go and tell me stories of this place.
Let them be long and let them be short.
But you must let them be real and please do it quickly, for I can not stand it another moment longer."
And then the
blue man began to tell of just where we were.
"First.  Let me proudly introduce myself.  My name is Bluman!"
And I thought to myself, "Bloomin' crazy, is what he is.
I've been thinking
blue man since the minute I saw him.
Must have been some kind of premonition or something.
With that
pinky bluish face and those bright blue eyes.  And all that blue fir all about.
With those elongated fingers,
bluer blue then his blue furry fir.
I cackled aloud, "A pleasure to meet ya.   Mr.
Bluman. Are you friend or foe?"
And then, without a moments hesitation, came a smile so rich and so friendly,
I thought that my heart would burst from my chest.
"And is
Bluman your first name or is that your last?
Can you tell me what's up in this place filled with horrors and questions?
For my fear is riding high inside me.
Oh dear creature before me, will you guide me to freedom?
Can you make these horror and questions on the questions end?
Can you make all that I have faced disappear?"
And again his
blue smile grew broader with each question I pose,
his mouth opened with a grin and some of the answers to my question came forth.
"Questions!   Questions!  You have so many questions!
Firstly, let me say, that my first name is
Bluman and lastly, that my second is Blue."
And a fine name it is,
Bluman given by father.
Took his last name as mine.   Which became
Bluman Blue.
Now in second.  Was it the first or the second of the questions before me now?
Am I foe or am I not?  To answer your firstly question, I am friend that is I, I is friend and I is I!"
totally confused by this strange twisting of words and the thought of a blue cookie monster looking
creature is talking to me at all, I said,
"Now what the heck did you  just say?" and so he continued,
"I am friend!  I am friend!"   Spouts his mouth almost in a holler.
"What do I have to do to prove I am but a friend.
"Should I jig?  Should I jag?  And take the chance of getting gum on my feet.
Shall I sing out a song, that is loud, that is clear?
Trust in me my good friend, for here and now you have no other choice.
Trust in me and I'll explain what there is here to know.
Now please help me to remember what it was that you questioned in the first place or was it second?"
Please, please do help!   For I forgot, whatever the questions were, in your first place.
Now wait, I do remember, I think, that you asked why these horrors had come to you.
They came from your dreams, you made up long so ago,
Can I guide?  Can I guide?  Can I guide you to freedom?
That's my job and I know it full well, that in fact I do know it to well."
So I took all this information in and I gleefully wondered,
"This can be the exact hope I've been searching for, that I've been longing for!
Tell me more!  Tell me more!  Tell me all there is to know.
Oh how do we escape from this place and to freedom?
I will listen.  Tell me more.  I'll be patient and I'll trust you."
Then he did what I thought was impossible.
His Smile already stretched, broadened even more.
And with that the smoky clouds began to dissipate and vanished from our sight.
I could see the other creatures all about, heads still watching the beauty Bride upon the screen.
And he said with that smile, brighter than the Cheshire cat himself,
"Come and meet my dear friends.  The friends to my right and the friends to my left.
Come and meet, and mingle, and chat with them calmly.
You have brought them here through your dreams, from your past, from your life.
Their not foe, their not fowl, there's not one to fear at all.
Please do trust, and you'll see, hat they're having much fun here.
Watching pictures, on this screen.  This is real to these creatures."
She is Bride and he her man.  They were meant to be soul mates.
And all he others, again you created them yourself from your imagination.
The ones with antennas serve them as a head guru.
I promise you, that everyone of them would be friends to you."
I stood there with almost a blank expression on my face and said,
"Silly, silly, very, very very silly.  The whole thing is very silly."
And I said more, "You say you call them friends.  I say they look like monsters.
I say they ring terror in my heart."
Bluman stood there with his gapping open mouth and said,
"I did not create them or choose them, it is your dreams, not mine!"
And Blue man came around the chairs, extended his hand as in a hand of friendship and said,
"I am Bluman.  You are you man.
Come and see what you shall see.
Let me take you to the balcony."
Then I questioned,
"Why can't I meet them right here, right now?
What's the matter with right here and now?"
And with a sly broad smile
Blue man spoke,
"My dear friend, why do you fear my bothers and sisters, these fine creatures of the night.
They sit happily.  They sit joyfully.  They watch so peacefully in their place.
Each of them sitting in their own comfort, none of the bothering the other.
Let me take you now to the balcony where you can mingle, till you tingle.
With each monster and each creature.  Even aliens will glow.
But walk lightly, through this theater, set in darkness lights your fear.
Of their friends upon the screen there.  She's alive.  Yes, she's alive!"
We walked out of the aisle that was wide enough to fit his hairy mass,
and tip toed oh so lightly, not to step on Mr. Hyde.
I saw creatures, I saw monsters, I begged your pardoned to them all.
Some had no feet to watch my pardon, looks like all they had are hands to show.
As we walked out from the aisle I saw two creatures that were bound.
Oh how I was grateful for them being bound,
for they looked as though they would rip us limb from limb if given half a chance.
We entered the double doors with the exit sign above and before me stood a crowd.
When we came through the other side I immediately saw that there were
creatures left and creatures right.
I bit my upper lip and I gave a broadest smile I ever could.
For now, I had a new friend, one that I found here
and one that I would grow to trust over time.
His name was
Bluman.

And once more
Bluman said with his smile,
"Oh come and meet my dearest friends here.
Come and meet them far and wide.
Come and meet my dearest friends now.
On this balcony so high."
